In a post-pandemic world, as the style pendulum swings, we have started to see more maximalist styles come back onto the scene - experimentation of clashing colours, double denim, mixing different textures to create rich layered looks. No matter how you choose to style yourself, streetwear will always manage to creep in - from the re-emergence of basketball jackets, to jordans - it is deeply ingrained into mainstream style. In this blog, we will round up our selection of the hottest streetwear brands for 2022/23.

In just a few decades, streetwear evolved from being predominantly a fringe sub-culture to one of the most significant forces in pop culture today. But to celebrate streetwear, we must first recognise how it was birthed - and pay homage to its hip-hop roots, which (unbeknownst to so many) has shaped everything we wear today whether we realise it or not.

Hip-hop has not only had a monumental influence on fashion culture, informing countless wider and micro fashion trends but is so much more than just style and music genre - its a lifestyle!

The Birth of Hip-Hop Culture

In 70's New York, a time when disco culture ruled the roost, hip-hop was first conceived as a reaction to this. Boroughs like the Bronx in New York City largely made up of Caribbean immigrants and young African-Americans began coming together for block parties - which is how hip-hop was born. People in New York would dress up in their finest outfits for the disco clubs, and the young people of low-income neighbourhoods adopted this mentality at block parties, showcasing their finest fits. They typically wore bomber jackets, tracksuits and sneakers with oversized laces. Baggy oversized clothing was worn, largely due to inner-city hand-me-downs.

Iconic Dj Kool Herc DJing in Blackpool, UK, 2000

Early pioneers started practising using two turntables to extend the dance break in funk and soul records - which created a seamless sound loop ideal for dancing to endlessly. Dj Kool Herc, and Grandmaster Flash were some of the first pioneers of the a 'breakbeat', a repetitive drum pattern, that essentially formed the backbone of hip-hop music. Later down the line, this led to the practice of sampling existing music to create something fresh and new.

Hip-hop here was so much more than a style genre but a holistic lifestyle, blending music, DJ-ing, dancing and graffiti art - providing a much-needed escape from a myriad of societal, economic, political and cultural forces. Much like it still is today, hip-hop in the 70s was an attitude that overcomes the limitations and boundaries society tries to enforce - it could be said that the wearer makes his clothing hip-hop. Rapper KRS-One infamously said "Rap is something you do! Hip hop is something you live!"

Run DMC for Addidas

Within the counter-culture, b-boy culture (a breakdancer) had a huge influence with b-boys often donning matching tracksuits, gold chains and Kangol hats - which quickly impacted and brought an exciting new dynamic fashion culture to the thriving New York hip-hop scene.

Dapper Dan's Legacy

Run-DMC has to be one of the single most influential hip-hop groups that influenced the signature hip-hip style - rocking Adidas tracksuits and laceless shell toed-sneakers as their uniform. Although sportswear/ athletic wear are often synonymously associated with hip-hop fashion, high-end fashion started to integrate into the culture in the 80s. Daniel 'Dapper Dan' was a luxury knockoff king from Harlem, and opened up his atelier in 1982. He made his way to the top by incorporating haute couture labels such as Gucci, MCM, Fendi & Louie Vuitton and silhouettes into streetwear. His designs appeared on the likes of icons LL Cool J, and Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie. "He draws on a long legacy of black style as both a form of self-realisation and a statement of political-aesthetic resistance'

His creative fusion and vision, blending high-end luxury brands alongside New York street style has meant his legacy is still celebrated today - even by the houses that once found them offensive. Due to various lawsuits, Dapper Dan's store was shut down in 1992. His legacy still lives on and is recognised today - The Gucci-Dapper dan collection, an official collaboration that was released in 2019 took cue from the Dapper Dan Archive, and they shot the collection on young faces from Harlem.

Luxury & Streetwear

Not only did European luxury superbrands gain popularity within hip-hop culture, but all-american brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger started to become synonymous with hip-hop culture. Dapper Dan's downfall also coincided with a shift within style within the hip-hop community, becoming tired of luxury knockbacks, people were moving towards a more authentic style that felt truer to them. Rappers started to create their own labels - such as Run-D.M.C iconic Adidas 1 million dollar endorsement deal including a signature line for the group making serious waves within the fashion community.

N.W.A streetwear and hip-hop

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton

Hip-hop style differed massively coast to coast, and on the West Coast, groups such as Public Enemy and N.W.A became known for there unique sounds and sense of style. They became synonymous with a more stripped-back streetwear dress sense consisting of baseball jackets, caps and a nod to military aesthetic. Hip-hop was still not part of popular culture, and the East/West Coast rap rivalry, coupled with N.W.A's gangster self identification and popular hip-hop artists being killed such as Tu-pac meant that hip-hop was associated with a dangerous lifestyle. In turn, luxury brands still didn't want to be associated with the hip-hop lifestyle.

Wu-Tang clan launched their own brand in 1995 - Wu Wear, in turn inspiring a generation of artists who realised they could control what they wore, what they promoted and how this could benefit them. Fashion brands failed to speak to their listeners and audiences, so they took this rejection and turned this into a powerful statement - creating clothing for fans who also resonated with the lifestyle and were authentic to the world they lived in.

In the 90's and early 00's, more streetwear/urban brands were born out of hip-hop culture. Sean John by Diddy popped up, and we saw a rise in urban fashion, where rappers tapped into creating designs that could authentically convey the creativity and ingenuity of the hip-hop world. We also saw a focus on Afrocentric colours and sports teams being woven into the scene, and early streetwear labels such as the now iconic Stussy became part of landscape.

The NBA basketball stars also had a huge impact on the streetwear scene - just look at Michael Jordan! The Jordan brand line of sneakers garnered him style icon status, and these were status of symbol on the streets, and still are just as culturally relevant today!

From sub-culture to mainstream

In the early 00's, Hip-hop style icons such as Pharell, as part of N.E.R.D, brought colour and vibrancy to the hip-hop style scene, by merging punk, Japenese streetwear and punk - bringing a eclectic mix of new style notes into the hip-hop style genre. Rap music started climbing charts more and more, and hip-hop finally lost its outsider status as a sub-culture, becoming firmly weaved into popular culture.

This started the momentum of a huge rise of celebrity rap brands and collaborations, from ASAP Rocky and Dior's collaboration to Pharell's Billionaire Boys Club, to Golf Wang by Tyler the Creator to Kayne West's hugely influential Yeezy collection. In fact, Kayne West's Yeezy first line had such a powerful hook on mainstream society that the line's minimalistic silhouettes, stripped-back neutrals and cycle shorts had people and fashion brands all over the world taking inspiration and styling in the Yeezy aesthetic.

By 2017, Nielson Music published that rap had surpassed rock to become the most popular music genre in the U.S, only further propelling luxury designers to just how they need to embrace hip-hop style to remain relevant. This is especially key as Millenials and elder Gen Z are quickly becoming spenders within the luxury industry, and are predicted to account for 45% of the global persona luxury goods mindset.

This cultural shift also saw Virgil Abloh become the first black designer to creatively direct a major luxury house. His work at Louis Vuitton, transformed the brand and he reshaped what it meant to be a creative director, bringing streetwear to the highest level of luxury market but blending in the hip-hop love of 'remixing' and a strong desire to make social progress. Founder of Off-white, he found a beautiful way of blending fashion, music, art, luxury and travel and cemented himself as a true fashion icon, 'the Karl Largerfield' of his time.

Ultimately, everything we wear - from our trainers to our casual tees and hoodies to caps has been influenced by hip-hop culture, but now streetwear is woven deeply into mainstream society, it can be easy for people to forget to pay homage to its inspirational roots.

How we dress, how we express ourselves and the art we choose to wear on our bodies have all been impacted by hip-hop in one way or another, from luxury to fast fashion, to crepes and even nail art.

As a streetwear brand, we always want to celebrate the cultural significance of streetwear + hip-hop culture - we wouldn't be here without it! Huck quotes "Making something out of nothing is the ethos of hip hop, and it underscores why and how the culture continues to inspire, influence, and shape mainstream fashion houses." Today, in a world where both luxury fashion and hip-hop have a truly symbiotic relationship, it is key to note that hip-hop has always been the place for marginalised voices, especially in more divided times where society turned away. A strong, united voice and powerful statement that challenges the system, this empowerment that allowed hip-hop to first birth is just as powerful today, if not stronger. As Biggie Smalls said 'We cant change the world unless we change ourselves". Let's raise a glass to the hip-hop lifestyle.

Fashion is finally becoming celebrated in a way where we fully embrace personal style regardless of identity - and appreciate fashion for what it is - a creative form of art that we wear on our bodies as a means of positive self-expression! The progress we have made in recent years, with the decline of outdated, societal and conformative gender norms has been monumental. However, society never would have made this progress without the gay, queer and LGBTQ+ icons who have pushed and continue to do so, as the shape shifters and movement makers who have broken the boundaries within not only the fashion world but within the creative industries and global attitudes as a whole! In this blog, we celebrate legendary LGBTQ+ icons not only for pride month but as monumental figures who should be paid homage to every day for their legacies within the fashion and creative world.

Comfy, Breathable Bottoms To Lounge In

A key consideration when dressing for your journey is to wear the comfiest bottoms possible for your journey. Planes and transport can often mean cramped spaces, and if you have a long haul flight or journey wearing tight, stiff bottoms are not going to be a vibe after those first few hours. To maximise your comfort aim to dress in looser, flexible bottoms such as joggers or shorts, and if you are someone who prioritises being super comfy, lose the jeans for the airport and stick them in the case instead!

Layer as much as possible!

Airport travelling days can often expose us to so many different micro climates and temperatures - from departing, to at the airport, to the plane, to our new destination and arrival transport. Even when you've checked the weather, it can be hard to predict exactly how warm you will be - which is why layering should be your best friend for travel days! Keep things simple by layering items that are easy to remove such as an oversized hoodie, zip-up jackets and your go-to t-shirt beneath it all. Even if it's a warm day, packing a hoodie for the plane is a must as being sat down for long periods of time on top of air con can lead us to feel the chill even more. Plus, the more layers you wear to the airport - less you have to pack which is a win win!

Oversize Fits Are King

When travelling for the day, being cramped in small spaces and unnatural environments can lead us to feel a lil less than fresh, and there is nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable when your not feeling your 100% game after travelling for hours! If you prioritise comfort, we recommend opting for oversized 'fits where you can. Grab an oversize tee and pair it with your fave joggers for a simplistic but stylish fit that also keeps you feeling good while wearing it. Plus, oversize tees will make a strong addition to your holiday wardrobe and are ideal for throwing over those beach fits or taking you from day to night.

Fashion icons such as Harry Styles, Lil Nas X, Kid Cudi and Jaden Smith have all recently had notable gender-neutral moments that have helped challenge gender norms and the discussion surrounding genderless fashion.

It also seems 2020's pandemic has accelerated its growth, with Gen Z and Zillenials (the micro-cohort between Gen Z and Millenials) spearheading this on social media - the hashtag #genderfluidfashion has amassed 5.7million on TikTok! According to Lyst (global shopping platform), searches for fashion pieces including agender keywords have increased in volume by more than 33% since the start of 2021! Harry Styles's iconic Vogue 2020 cover also got everyone talking, quoting 'Clothes are there to have fun with, experiment with and play with'.

In this blog, we take you through our favourite gender-neutral trends for 2022, guaranteed to help you level up all your summer lewks no matter what you’ve got planned, we got you!

Cargos Pants + Earthy Tones

Over the pandemic, we saw a surge of popularity in wearing chocolate brown hues, and our love for comforting, simplistic nudes has continued into 2022. We are seriously obsessing over the cargo pant trend that has been all over TikTok, and think they are an ideal gender-neutral wardrobe staple to be easily worn by all. Layer up a classic nude pair with earthy tones for a chic casual streetwear look, and don't be afraid to try out different shapes and cuts. Our Desert Sand Tee is the perfect addition to your cargos 'fit, and this nude wardrobe staple that can be easily layered up or worn alone for an effortlessly cool look. Coming in an oversize fit, this tee can be made your own no matter what your style vibe is.

Experiment With Sizing + Layering

2022, the sizing rulebook is out the window. The dated gender norms that once conotated oversize looser fits as 'masculine' and bodycon fits or even cropped fit's seen as 'feminine'. Gender-neutral dressing is all about fashion is all about embracing pieces that fit the way that YOU like them and that makes you feel good! Here at Chinadoll fashion, we have a range of genderless oversize pieces for when you want that fit, or regular for a closer fit. Layer up an oversize tee and pair it with a mesh body for a way to level up your everyday fit.

Effortless Tailoring

Tailoring is truly genderless! We've seen a rise in women wearing looser, more androgynous suit pieces, and suit pieces can be tailored to fit how you want to wear them - not the other way round! Experiment with tailoring designed for men and women regardless of your gender, and get playful with sizing! Investing in a power suit that makes you feel good will be a worthy staple for your s/s 2022 'fits, and we recommend pairing it with a classic white tee for an effortlessly cool look.

Motorcycle Biker Jacket

Motorcycle Biker jackets were seen all over the S/S 2022 catwalks and are the ultimate genderless staple. From cropped, to oversize, to long length this 90's inspired piece will seriously elevate your fits over the spring-summer period. Ideal for throwing on those cooler nights, or layer over our Original Hoodie for an all black biker look that will turn some heads. We also love them paired with distressed denim for a nod to 90s grunge or the off duty model aesthetic.

Skirts for all genders

Skirts for men are no new thing, but with the rise in gender-fluid styles, we have seen over the pandemic an increase in men donning skirts from longer kilt styles seen on the catwalks, to mini skirts paired over jeans. We love the Thom Browne unisex skirt, paired with a full blazer for an effortlessly chic fit. Harry Styles rocked a kilted skirt by Wales Bonner for Vogue 2020, and we are obsessed with how they styled the skirt on him, showcasing how wearing anything you feel good in... works!

Neon Brights and Colour Clashing

After experiencing a collective feeling of bleakness and going through difficult times as a planet, the colour trends for 2022 are rooted in optimism, warmth and excitement - a bright contrast against the mundanity of the pandemic. There are no rules when it comes to colours, and neon brights are truly genderless and look fire on everyone! Experiment with fuschia pink, electric orange and hyper yellows and don't be afraid to layer multiple brights up at once. Layer up tone on tone in your streetwear fits or even go for a bold statement in neon tailoring for a fresh vibe that will turn some serious heads. If you still prefer sticking to monochrome shades but want to dabble with neon, check out our Painter BXY Hoodie in Black x Yellow and Black x Orange for a seriously cool statement piece that can be worn limitlessly.

Here at Chinadoll fashion, we have always aimed to create stand out streetwear designs that can be worn as a means of self-expression, regardless of gender identity - our brand is for everyone and anyone who it resonates with. All of our pieces come in a range of sizes and 'fits (regular and oversize), making it easy for you to customise and wear your way and embrace genderless fashion. Shop our effortless unisex designs from statement tees to fresh hoodies and accessories, all designed to make an impact and empower you to feel confident no matter what the motive is.

https://adopteunbaobab.com/blogs/news/is-brown-here-to-stay 2021-10-06T14:21:02+01:00 2022-02-22T09:51:33+00:00 The New Nude: Is Brown Here to Stay? CEEK Collaborator 2020 saw brown become the year's most coveted shade - from brown loungewear, to brown outerwear and formalwear, brown made itself known as SERIOUS hot property. Rich chocolate brown shades took the social media world by storm, especially on trend-focused platforms such TikTok, Instagram & Pinterest, with Gen Z TikTokers even dying their clothing to brunette hues. Whilst some may have thought the brown trend was just a fleeting moment amongst 2020's chaos, it refused to take a back seat and has continued to dominate the fashion scene, also making waves in the beauty and interior design industries.

Brown Fashion Trend

Source: @kimkardashian

The Rise of Brown

Historically, brown was often outmatched by rival darker hues such as black, navy, grey or outshone by its paler nude counterparts such as taupe or beiges. Previously considered dull and dated, the colour has rehabilitated its public image and emerged as the main character, spotted in homes and trend-setting celebrities across the globe.

However, this brown obsession didn't happen overnight, and the shift towards minimalist fashion and natural beauty saw muted colourways disrupt the catwalks and street style alike, from Kayne's iconic first Yeezy collection back in 2015 & The Kardashians nude obsession, to high end designers such as Celine, Fendi, Burberry and Prada showcasing shades of browns in collections pre 2019. Dutch trend forecasting expert Lidewij Edelkoort predicted back in June 2019 that brown was going to make ripples in the fashion industry, predicting that brown would knock black off the top spot - even referring to the next thirty years as 'The Brown Age'! And whilst beige and taupes have been a continuous trend over the last 5 years (particularly for the A/W catwalks, and paler hues for S/S collections), these shades have been given upgraded to its darker sister shade - rich deep chocolate and other brown counterparts such as truffle brown and warmer brunette hues.

It's safe to say that 2020’s pandemic had a monumental effect on how we think, what we did, how we lived, which of course had a knock on effect on how we dressed. Last year's pandemic saw many embrace a far more minimalist lifestyle due being in and out of lockdowns - gravitating towards more stripped back makeup, block coloured loungewear and pared back aesthetics, so moving towards richer, earthier colour bases makes sense. After a year of widespread disease, financial difficulties, death and what some might call a collapse of society, consumer behaviour changed and leaning into muted shades felt fitting, providing a sense of comfort and accessibility. What's more, the shift in thinking over the last few years in regards to sustainability leading to a focus on more natural, raw and pared back fashion also helped browns rise to the top.

Brown Nude Trend Report

How to Wear Brown

The beauty of brown lies in its versatility. Similar to its paler beige counterparts, brown is easy to layer amongst other colours, and unlike black it doesn't overpower the other colours worn with it. Instead, brown works in harmony with other colours and due its the neutral tone, even results in them becoming more vibrant and allows the other colour worn with it to ‘pop’. We particularly love brown paired with muted duck egg, teals and mint green shades or even pastel tones like baby pink creates a beautiful contrast! For a bolder move for those that prefer deep shades, brown paired with deep burgundy, copper and burnt orange shades results in an impactful look, perfect for autumn style!

Once a HUGE fashion faux-pas, brown paired with black is now a hot combination, and the once frowned upon pairing was seen splashed from streetwear brands such as Stussy, to coveted luxury brands such as The Row. This look can easily be tapped into through layering up a brown jacket over your favourite Chinadoll fashion Black Redline Tee, or pairing your go-to black jeans with an oversized brown sweat.

For the ultimate brown look, pair brown on brown for a tonal vibe. We absolutely love brown streetwear pieces mixed with brown outerwear and neighbouring chocolate shades. Layer up shades of chocolate, mocha, and minks for an understated luxe look. Our Desert Storm Painter T-Shirt is the ideal companion for all your tonal 'fits. Or, for those who cant bare to part with nudes, pair brown with taupes, beiges or even white for a fresh, brighter take on the trend and an updated nude look. Pair a leather or cord chocolate brown trouser with a nude or sleek white t-shirt like the White Painter T-shirt for an effortlessly cool look that checks all the style boxes.

Brown is certainly back with a vengeance, and we predict it will continue to weave itself into our wardrobes, our social feeds and be a consistent part of our lives, whether that be through subtle accents or head to toe brown fits - and we are here for it!

https://adopteunbaobab.com/blogs/news/best-streetwear-brands-2021 2021-05-11T12:41:49+01:00 2021-05-11T12:41:49+01:00 Best Streetwear Brands 2021 Blake Goodman "Streetwear is a culture that's ever-changing. Brands come and go, but there are some who have been able to maintain their presence in this fashion world for decades. In 2020, we saw the rise of many new streetwear brands like AMIRI, Fear of God, and Yeezy."

Streetwear is a fashion trend that continues to grow in popularity. In the last decade, streetwear has evolved from being an underground subculture into a mainstream cultural phenomenon.
What started as a niche trend among urban youth of color has now been adopted by people across all demographics and cultures around the globe.
Many brands have emerged since then, but these are some of the best streetwear brands for 2021:
1) Supreme
2) A Bathing Ape
3) BAPE/BAPESTA
4) Chinadoll fashion
5) Off-White

Streetwear is a subculture of urban youth that's been around for decades. The fashion style has evolved from its origins of being worn by people who lived in the streets to now being considered as more mainstream and adopted by all age groups, genders, cultures, and socioeconomic classes.

The world as we know it is changing, and so are the streetwear brands that have been around for more than 3 decades. As fashion trends change quickly and everything becomes unisex, there are a few streetwear brands that will be here to stay. Streetwear has always had a huge influence in society by giving people an escape from their boring lives with clothing lines like Supreme, BAPE, Stussy, Diamond Supply Co., etc. Streetwear brands give people an outlet to express themselves without judgement or prejudice which in turn brings societies together instead of tearing them apart.

I know you're thinking "Streetwear? That's so yesterday." but it's not. You may be surprised to find out that streetwear has evolved into a category of its own with original designs and aesthetics that are more sophisticated than ever before. Streetwear brands are still relevant in the industry, they've just changed their game by making wearable pieces for everyone from moms to teens. Brands like Supreme, Off-White, and Vetements have made streetwear their bread and butter while creating new trends every day.

Here at You Don’t Want This Life, we make bespoke brand clothing for all the artists and hustlers out there. Our bespoke jackets and accessories are for you--the dreamer and the doer.

Bespoke streetwear encompasses a wide range of unique, exclusive casual garments. No two pieces are alike. Take a look at our bespoke camo hoodieand other bespoke clothing. Here at You Don’t Want This Life,we make bespoke brand clothing for all the artists and hustlers out there. Our bespoke jacketsand accessoriesare for you--the dreamer and the doer.

Now when we talk about bespoke clothing at Chinadoll fashion,we’re not talking about going to a Savile Row tailor to get measured for a £5,000 business suit. That’s not what we’re about.

However, we areall about helping artists and creatives express themselves through their personal style. We offer unique, customized streetwear that includes bespoke jackets.

So what is bespoke clothing?

Decades ago bespoke clothing meant one thing. It was all custom suits handmade to the customer’s exact measurements, preferences, and specifications. But bespoke streetwear is a little different. Like those bespoke suits, bespoke streetwear is custom made. No two pieces are alike. It isn’t produced in mass quantities or on an assembly line. Bespoke streetwear is truly unique casual clothing. And like its more formal counterpart, bespoke streetwear is a bit more expensive that off-the-rack streetwear.

Like anything new though, there’s some controversy surrounding the contemporary usage of the word bespoke. Newsweekmagazine once said the term “bespoke” had been mangled into meaninglessness. The New York Timeseven once made a satirical video about “bespoke” trends like bespoke yoga and bespoke medical implants.

Since language evolves, however, the team at Merriam Webster explainthat bespoke now means custom-made. We’ll take their word for it, since they literally write the dictionary.

jacket

Bespoke vs. Custom

Again, in the traditional sense, bespoke means completely handmade from scratch. A bespoke tailor works one-on-one with his client to fit the customer’s body exactly. Think Bari’s Savile Row. On the other hand, a customsuit might be fully or partially machine-made. While it’s made with the customer’s measurements in mind, it’s not as precise and labor intensive as a bespoke suit.

As you would probably expect, the difference in labor is reflected in the pricing. A bespoke suit starts at £2,000 and goes up from there. A custom suit usually has a starting price around £500.

Here is a lovely explaineron the differences between off the rack, custom, and bespoke suiting. Of course, we don’t really do formal workwear like professional suiting around here. But,

Chinadoll fashion does offer some exclusive, bespoke clothing.

What is bespoke streetwear?

In streetwear terms of today, the terms bespoke and custom can be used interchangeably. A bespoke hoodie is simply a custom hoodie. It’s like our bespoke camo hoodies. There aren’t two that are alike. They’re individually hand-painted. They’re unique. Our entire bespoke streetwear collectionis full of original pieces. These are not copies or imitations. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. Our bespoke pieces are sourced and hand-painted by a collective of Chinadoll fashion fashion designers and artists.

Why is some Chinadoll fashionStreetwear clothing considered bespoke?

The fresh made bespoke pieces from You Don’t Want This Lifeoffer custom designs. We choose to offer a thoughtful reimagining of vintage aesthetics. For example, our bespoke jackets are individually sourced, reconstructed, reimagined, and hand painted by the fashion design team at Chinadoll fashion.

Our streetwear is bespoke because:

  • It’s hand-painted by our design team.

  • No two pieces are exactly alike.

  • Vintage fabrics and garments are individually sourced by our design team.

  • We don’t mass produce these items.

  • There is only one of one available. If you purchase it, you are the only one who owns that jacket.

  • The higher price points of these bespoke jackets reflect the extra care and craftsmanship involved in creating them.

How much is a bespoke jacket?

Our bespoke streetwear jackets range in price from £250-£500. They’re eco-friendly, hand-painted, and truly unique. At that price, they’re still quite a deal.

As mentioned, these pieces are typically loose-fitting and oversized. They can be worn by men or women. Some of these unisex pieces, including this one, glow under UV light.

Where can I buy bespoke streetwear clothing?

Right hereat You Don’t Want This Life,of course! Be sure to grab anything you like before it’s gone. Only one of one is available. And our exclusive, bespoke streetwear pieces move fast. Our great fits, comfortable fabrics, and custom designs make Chinadoll fashion a popular choice among those with a true sense of style.

You won’t find gear like this anywhere else. Seriously--this stuff isn’t mass produced in a factory. It’s genuine. Each bespoke clothing article is a one-of-a-kind original. These streetwear jackets aren’t for everybody. They’re for those who are bold enough to stand out, not content to simply fit in.

And another thing--our bespoke jackets are for men and women and everyone. Like we said before, anyone can embrace the freedom and artistry inherent in the streetwear movement. And when you are really wanting something that’s one of a kind, you can never go wrong with bespoke. When you choose bespoke, you choose to wear a piece of art.

WHY STREETWEAR HOODIES ARE A 2020 WARDROBE ESSENTIAL

Hoodies Are Perfect For Any Situation

A hoodie is great for both loungewear and activewear, but to many traditional designers surprise, in 2019, the hoodie also managed to make its way onto the fashion week runway decorated with diamonds. The entry of the street-wear style into the designer scene marked a significant change as to what was universally accepted to be high-fashion. High-end designers such as Gucci have now incorporated a street-wear element into some of their most recent lines, creating a whole new element to the classic hoodie look which can be worn in any situation.

Good hoodies are always in season, there is no wrong time to wear a hoodie. They are such a popular item of clothing to wear year-round and for any situation, and event you may have to attend. You can wear custom hoodies at any time whether you are traveling, going to any party, for universities/schools or in the comfort of your home.

Comfort is Key In A Hoodie

There is nothing better than feeling comfortable when you are out and about, from running errands in town to heading out for drinks with friends, feeling comfortable is essential. Hoodies are a clothing item that is very comfortable and cozy, especially those of which have the perfect blend of cotton and polyester. Most people would consider hoodies as a comfortable garment- which is true, but it is much more than that because when styled correctly, you have the chance to look stylish whilst staying comfy.

Unisex Hoodies

Another cool thing about hoodies is the fact that they are mostly unisex! It is not a gender-specific article of clothing and there is no one way to style it- there are literally dozens of dozens of ways to style it and that includes for women and men. It can make you look effortlessly cool. In streetwear, the lines between male and female clothing is certainly blurred and often brands do not offer gender specific lines, simply designing their clothes to be worn by men and women simultaneously.

Easy to Style Hoodies

The same hoodie can be styled into so many different looks (you can wear them with almost anything), just choose one staple good quality hoodie that is versatile and will last! There is certainly no need to spend loads of money on multiple hoodies if you take care of it properly and purchase from a high quality brand. On the other hand, you could also have one or two “go to's”, or even craft an entire closet full of hoodies to change between throughout the year it is totally your preference.

You can also wear many layers underneath and it won’t be noticeable and it won’t look bad. You could even not be wearing anything underneath and no one would even know! If you want to make your look more creative and styled, then you could pair your hoodie with a really cool pair of trainers and trousers to spice up the whole look. You could even buy yourself an oversized hoodie and pair it with your best pair of heels and it would be the perfect outfit to any cool/dressy event. There really is no right or wrong way to wear them - just throw one on and you’re ready to go! You can play with the weight, the fabric, and the color amongst many other things. Styling hoodies as your outfit of the day is actually really fun, not to mention it is a way to showcase your creative side!

Hoodies are stylish, hoodies look cool, hoodies protect you from cold weather, and so much more. So it is officially time for you to throw away your old worn out college hoodie and invest in something versatile and fashionable. Below are the top 10 hoodies you should have going into 2020- high fashion meets street style:

Curious about the best streetwear outfits? Looking for some style inspo? No worries. We’ve got you covered with 9 of out best streetwear outfit ideas for men and womxn.

One of the most awesome things about streetwear is how nearly everything is unisex--including everything on this list. Even here at You Don’t Want This Life, most of our pieces are not made for a specific gender. Our bespoke jackets and accessories are literally for everyone.

And everyone can embrace the freedom of the streetwear movement.

So what is streetwear? Depends who you ask. But, generally, when you hear the term “streetwear” it means an athletically-influenced, casual style. Think baseball hats, hoodies, t-shirts, sneakers, and denim jackets. Most streetwear pieces are rendered in casual fabrics like cotton, twill, and denim. Some of the most popular streetwear brands right now include Supreme, Bape, and even Champion

While these brands have long been embraced by skaters, hip-hop artists, and surfers, the streetwear aesthetic didn’t rise to mainstream acceptance until the 1990s. Back then it was popularized by pro skaters like Tony Hawk.

Since the early 2010s streetwear clothing has been experiencing another resurgence. Just like the athleisure movement, streetwear offers a modern, relaxed take on fashion.

There’s a freedom to streetwear outfits that allows for true style and authentic self-expression. With all that said, let’s take a look at the some of best streetwear outfits...and how to cop them.

#1 - Gray Hoodie + Navy Cargo Pants

Let’s start with a classic streetwear look. This is one of the best streetwear outfits because it’s

both effortless and timeless. Pair a grey hoodie with navy cargo pants. A white work shirt is underneath it all. You can go upscale with a pair of boots. Or you can make it casual with a pair of clean white sneakers.

#2 - Neon Jacket + Mom Jeans

For those who love going bold with their street style, we suggest a neon jacket or hoodie. Try layering it over a matching turtleneck or bodysuit. Wear you neon with a pair of high-waist mom jeans. We have our very own neon hoodies in yellow and orange. Oh, and don’t forget the bum bag.

#3 - Denim Jacket + Black Joggers + Dad Hat

An oversized denim jacket is the perfect mate for a pair of sleek black joggers or leggings. Feeling chilly? Throw a black hoodie under the jacket for extra warmth. Don’t forget the fresh grey kicks and the dad hat.

#4 - Oversized Camo Jacket + White T-Shirt + Black Leggings

Above you can see the gorgeous Zendaya rocking one of the best streetwear outfits we’ve seen. It’s all about simplicity and easy movement. She’s got a great white t-shirt, black leggings, and black trainers. Then she tops it off with an oversized camo jacket. And, yes, we’ve got the perfect camo coat just for you.

#5 - White Hoodie + Ripped Jeans + White Trainers

The key to nailing this amazing streetwear look? Keep it clean. Your white hoodie, t-shirt, and trainers need to be spotless. And make sure your distressed denim is a lighter wash. Add a black hat and large wristwatch for extra visual interest.

#6 - White T-Shirt + Distressed Denim

If it’s too warm for the white hoodie look above, try a simple white t-shirt. Again, we suggest light wash, ripped jeans for low contrast. Grab a tote bag on your way out the door. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with clean, white trainers.

#7 - Denim + Denim

Denim on denim is another streetwear classic. There’s two ways to pull it off. This first options? You denim pieces need to match perfectly. And the other choice? Your denim should totally clash. Think a light-wash denim jacket with super dark wash jeans. You can’t really get it wrong. Since denim is a neutral itself, it pairs with all other neutrals, including other denim.

#8 - Olive Bomber Jacket + Black Hoodie

Source: Hypebeast

This is a more sophisticated take on the hoodie-under-a-jean-jacket look. Swap out the denim coat for an olive bomber for a streetwear look that feels luxurious. Black joggers or leggings serve it well. Throw on a pair of neon trainers for extra street style cred.

#8 - T-Shirt as a Dress

Streetwear outfit with T-shirts as dresses

Source: Fashion Jackson

Let your favorite oversized t-shirt impersonate a dress. For extra shape, you can belt it or tie a knot on one side of the bottom. Of course, we like it formless too. If you’re not comfortable sporting a t-shirt as a dress, you can try pairing one with leggings, skinny joggers, or even hosiery.

And, yes, guys can get away with this oversized shirt as a dress outfit too. Look to nonconformist celebrities with gender fluid style. Check out fashion-forward faves like Jaden Smith, Billy Porter, Jared Leto, and Jonathan Van Ness for inspiration.

Clearly, streetwear is here to stay. In fact, it’s the only way to approach clothing in our modern world. The playful proportions and casual fabrics are accessible for nearly everyone, regardless of age, size, or gender. And, even in these outfit examples, you can see how anyone can rock these looks.

]]>
Like the dad hat or grandpa sweater, the bum bag is one of those fashion items that has come full circle. Back in the 90s, we loved it. Then, we hated it during the aughts. Now, we’re back to loving these practical bags. Hypebeasts from Slough to Bari to East Sussex are embracing this street style trend. And with major designers like Gucci taking to the fashion week run-way with their take on the classic bum-bag, we don’t see these statement bags leaving our closets anytime soon.

But hold on! Just because this 90s trend is back in fashion doesn’t mean you can throw it on with any outfit in your wardrobe. Keep reading to learn how to rock your bum bag so that it feels fresh, not dated.

What is a bum bag anyway?

Sometimes called a belt bag or a fanny pack, a bum bag is a hands-free pouch to store your money, phone, keys, or other small items. It was traditionally worn around the waist, but today’s hype-beasts are sporting them in unique ways.

Usually a bum bag is casual, trendy, and cheap-chic. Our very own original Chinadoll fashion bum bag falls into this category. It’s a street style staple in simple black and white. We call it our essential, hands free solution for street style stalkers. It features one zip pocket and an adjustable waist strap. The belt bag keeps daily necessities close and secure. Our bag also does double duty. It can be worn crossbody style. The best part? It’s only £25.

Chinadoll fashion black bum bag

Aside from casual street style versions like ours, bum bags are also available from high-end designers. A black and white belt bag from Gucci will set you back £525. Louis Vuitton’s Discovery Bumbag is an even bigger splurge at £1390. And, if you really want to spend, Chanel offers sequin bum bags that are upwards of £2000.

Other high street shops offer bumbags in a wide variety of fabrics and styles too. We’ve spotted belt bags at Topshop, Zara, and H&M. Like a lot of great street style trends, the bum bag is one that’s accessible to everyone. No matter what your budget or personal style, there’s bound to be a bum bag that’s perfect for you.

What else is a bum bag called?

Here in the UK, it’s easy to understand what we mean when we say bum bag.

In America, the term “fanny pack” is more popular. And international luxury fashion houses prefer the term belt bag. To make life harder, some people call these things hip bags or waist bags.

Basically if you hear the term belt bag, fanny pack, or hip bag, chances are it means bum bag.

Whatever word you use, it’s a hands-free pouch to store your essential items. It’s worn on the body. And anyone can wear it--men, women, teens, and kids.

Who can wear a bum bag?

One of the reasons bum bags are so popular is because they are literally for everyone. As a truly gender-neutral item, men, women, teens, and kids can all sport the functional fashion trend.

Practical by nature, people can wear them anywhere. They’re perfect for summer holidays, concerts, festivals, hiking, shopping and traveling.

What do you wear with a bum bag?

The possibilities are endless when it comes to pairing an outfit with your bum bag. Read on to find ten of our favorite ways to style this hypebeast wardrobe essential.

  • For a street style look, wear it crossbody style over an oversized sweatshirt with boots. It’s one of Ariana Grande’s signature looks. But this Gucci number will set you back some cash.
  • Mix classic pieces with athleisure. Wear your bum bag with a white button-down and biker shorts. This ensemble can be worn with stilettos or trainers. Like we said, the possibilities are endless.

  • If you’re all about your business, pair the street bag with a tailored suit. Women wear it at your natural waist. For men, try wearing it in place of your belt.
  • Brave a total normcore look. Kim Kardashian did it once. It was maybe the one time she was photographed in comfortable shoes.
  • Go for tone-on-tone. Wear a belt bag that matches the colors of your outfit. A$AP Rocky did this flawlessly with his Balenciaga bum bag.

How to wear a bum bag

Of course with every fashionable man and woman sporting a bumbag these days, you need to know how to make it your own and to stand out. Don’t panic. We break it down in three simple steps.

First, get your bag. Is it your first time? You want our cheap and chic redline bum bag. Already have it? Upgrade to a mid-market version from Coach or Michael Kors.

Next, choose your outfit. Are you leaning all in to the street style, athleisure feel with sweatpants and a hoodie? Or, are you going super sophisticated with a houndstooth suit?

Finally, decide how you want to wear it. You can wear it in the traditional way-- at the waist, where an actual belt might go. Or, you can wear it across your shoulders, like a crossbody bag. You can even tighten the straps and wear it like a purse of shoulder bag. Women can take the trend totally retro and use the belt bag to cinch in their natural waists.

There are so many stylish ways to wear a bum bag these days. For some serious bum bag fashion inspo, check out Vogue’s primer on How to Wear Belt Bags.

The bottom line? Experiment, see what you like and go for it.

CHUNKY TRAINERS ARE THE STREETWEAR SHOE TO HAVE

Love them or hate them, chunky trainers are certainly here to stay. The trend came into fashion in 2018 but as 2019 draws to a close, they are still as popular as ever.

Many people would associate this chunky style as a “dad-shoe” which puts many people off of the look, with luxury shoe lines such as Balenciaga and Gucci continuing to create these streetwear shoes, there is no doubt that they will be around for a while so the “dad-look” should be embraced!

Over the years, the chunky trainer trend has gotten bigger, souls have gotten more chunky and designs have become more colourful. As strange as it sounds, the ugly, chunky look has become a part of streetwear culture and is appreciated within the community for their unique look and individuality.

Whether you are wearing these trainers for nostalgia or because you are a hype beast with fashion FOMO, these are certainly not going anywhere anytime soon.

Chunky Trainers, the Streetwear Shoes to Wear

BACKPACKS

When your everyday items have outgrown the space in your pockets, there is no reason to turn your back on the classic backpack. The convenient hands-free design may be too nostalgic for some, reminding us of times at school when backpacks were necessary. But not only are backpacks super convenient for carrying around heavier items, but they are also a great day-to-day option for work. With designer brands emerging with some high-fashion versions of this classic bag, there are now plenty of backpack options which will complement
your street-wear look whilst keeping your items safe and protected from the elements.

This military style backpack by Kapital separates into two seperate bags or can be used as one larger backpack or as a smaller bum bag and smaller backpack. Taking inspiration from vintage trail packs, the intricate design and stiching is really detailed and interesting, with beading incorporated into the design and other details such as embroidered patches and pins. This bag certainly isn’t for everyone, and the well-worn effect comes with a big price tag. Made using perfectly distressed upcycled Japanese cotton canvas, it is the detailed
quality of Kapital’s products which has earned them a legion of fans who have created the well-known streetwear hype around their items. Unfortunately this means the backpack is already sold out, so keep your eyes out if you manage to spot one on the second-hand market.

With its soft fur finish, not only will this keep you warm but is also majorly on trend with faux-fur continuing to make a comeback year-on-year. Keep the festival-look going all year long whilst keeping your head warm.

SCARF

Streetwear Scarf

When the cold weather really drops, there is nothing better than a big scarf to keep you wrapped up warm. This accessory is often overlooked as something which is just used for warmth but a statement scarf can be a great way of adding some colour to an outfit and can even be a centre point of your winter look. This black Off-White scarf is a great combination of fashion and comfort, made with keeping warm in mind but also looks great as a street-wear fashion item. Throw this scarf on with an all black outfit to add a pop of colour, or simply use as a layering piece over your Chinadoll fashion hoodie.

MINI HANDBAG

Mini Handbag

If backpacks aren’t quite your vibe, why not dress up your streetwear look with a
mini-handbag? This 90s style handbag has made a mighty comeback and the iconic baguette bag which was known for being loved by Carrie Bradshaw and Paris Hilton is becoming hugely popular again in 2019 within the fashion world. As the popularity of these micro-bags grows, the size of them seems to shrink, with some bags seeming as though they will only hold a single coin or lipbalm. We love the colour of this Jacquemus mini suede bag which although is small, will still fit some night out essentials, and the vibrant yellow will add a pop of colour to any outfit! Although maybe these bags aren’t as practical as your traditional backpack, but if you are still not convinced, there are a number of bags which are a happy medium which will be perfect for you.

It is clear that accessories majorly contribute to the overall look of an outfit and can change an everyday, basic outfit into a fashionable streetwear look. Which of these streetwear accessories are you considering essential this winter? From bucket hats to micro-handbags there are plenty of streetwear accessories on the market which are ready to step-up your fashion game to the next level. Make sure you have several of these pieces in your winter wardrobe and you will transform your winter streetwear style.

Is Hype Clothing Worth the Hype?

You may have heard the term "hype clothing" or "hypebeast" when it comes to streetwear. But do you know what it all means or why it's called that? Let's dig in and get some knowledge on all things hype...

It is common knowledge that in 2019 Streetwear is not just made for the streets, Streetwear is dominating the fashion world and is even making its place known in the exclusive luxury fashion market too.

Who would have thought that we would be seeing hoodies and trainers dominating the luxury fashion runways across the world?

So why has streetwear become so popular and where did it come from?

Keep reading to find out how the Hype around streetwear a.k.a hype clothing turned into one of the most popular fashion trends in history.

What is a HypeBeast?

From the Urban Dictionary:

  1. "A person who follows a trend to be cool or in style. A person who wears what is hyped up."
  2. "A Hype Beast [sic] is a kid that collect[s] clothing, shoes, and accessories for the sole purpose of impressing others. Although the individual may not have a dime to their name, they like to front like they are making far more then everybody else. Equipped with mommies [sic] credit card, the Hype Beast [sic] will try his hardest to make sure he has every pair of Nike’s [sic] he saw Jay-Z wearing on 106 & Park."

The term “Hype Beast” can be traced back to 2005 when the term was coined as a blend of the two words “Hype” (which in this instance refers to the extravagant publicity around a new item of clothing or a trend), and “Beast” which is slang for a person who is skilled at something, in this case a person who is skilled at keeping up with the latest fashion trends.

Despite the word tracing back to 2005, it entered mainstream culture when rapper Trinidad James released his song “All Gold Everything” which contained the line “Hypebeasts we know aboutchea, don’t buy shoes unless they popular”.

While “Hypebeast” is a relatively new term, people often associate the concept with sneakerhead culture which was prevalent in the late 1990s and early 2000 in which people would collect expensive branded trainers.

Although there are many conflicting opinions on what “hypebeast” actually means, it is in agreement that a Hypebeast is someone who keeps up with the latest fashion trends in order to impress friends and those around them, they are obsessed with the latest releases and will go to any length to achieve the “Hype”.

You will often find these “Hype Beasts” camping outside supreme stores in order to ensure they are the first in line for the latest drops.

How is the “Hype” built around brands?

Drops

If you are familiar with streetwear brands, I am sure you are familiar with the popular “drop” marketing strategy which has been adopted by many of the brands. The “drop” process consists of releasing small quantities of “limited edition” clothing at selected retail locations or online, these products are often released without much warning and are often announced on social media. This strategy works to create a sense of urgency and exclusivity and leads the customer to believe that they must purchase the product quickly, in order to own an exclusive and limited edition item.

Supreme are the kings of the clothing drops and also have a massive following in the streetwear scene. Established in 1994 in downtown Manhattan, the brand has come a long way since, amounting a mass cult following around the world and even collaborating with some massive names such as Nike, Vans and North Face.

The “hype” which surrounds the brand and the brand name can be linked back to their focus on clothing “drops” when releasing new lines. When these new products “drop” in stores every week, without fail, there will be customers will be queuing for miles down the street in order to get their hands on the latest releases and obviously there is no better marketing for a brand than passers by seeing queueing down the street to get into your store.

Similar products of course can be purchased in any store, but these “hypebeasts” will happily queue for hours on end to have the latest and most popular releases.

Following the success and “hype” these drops have caused for streetwear brands, some luxury fashion labels have even begun to follow suit and release their products in similar ways.

Last year, Burberry decided to announce a series of drops to release their new streetwear inspired range, giving customers just 24 hours to purchase. It is certainly interesting to see high end fashion houses taking inspiration from Streetwear companies and it raises the question as to what the future holds for clothing releases and if these “drops” will evolve.

Joanne Yulan Jong, a fashion business expert believes that embracing these new tactics is a great way of reaching out to younger audiences and is essential for long-term survival and for ensuring they stay relevant and in the limelight, or risk being taken over by younger, more dynamic brands.

Social Media

Social media also plays a major part in the streetwear scene and how “hype” is created around brands and products. It can be argued that social media is in fact what took streetwear from a subculture to the mainstream.

Before the internet, the only way to get your hands on the latest releases was being in the right place at the right time, and searching the shops to find limited edition items. Because of the commitment which was necessary to getting hold of these products, it can be argued that consumers had a lot more of a connection to the brand.

With the rise of streetwear on social media, it means hypebeasts no longer have to hustle to get their hands on the latest and most limited edition items, it can often be done at the click of a button, with little thought or connection to the brand or their community.

Despite this change in culture, many of the streetwear brands have adapted to this change in consumerism, and what the internet has taken away from these brands in terms of exclusivity, it has given back in the form of “hype”.

Streetwear drops can now be teased on social media weeks, or even months before the official drop day, and Twitter has also become a major part of bringing back the community element of this culture. Hype beasts can now take to Twitter to discuss and conspiracies when the next drops will be.

Hype clothing and streetwear has had one of the biggest evolutions in fashion history. What started as a skating subculture, has evolved into a billion pound, high-fashion industry where hype fashion can be achieved at the touch of a button.

OG streetwear hypebeasts may be disheartened by this change in exclusivity, but the streetwear scene is thriving and is only being heightened by the rise of social media. With more and more brands adopting the successful marketing strategies of Streetwear brands, the future for fashion marketing is exciting and unknown.

There is no denying the fact that streetwear is saturating the fashion scene in 2019 with streetwear vibes even making their way into high fashion runways such as Gucci.

With the lines between streetwear fashion and high fashion becoming increasingly blurred, we are no longer surprised at seeing trainers and tracksuits on the runway. The streetwear revolution we are currently in the centre of means that we no longer have to sacrifice comfort in order to look good, as streetwear has given us the opportunity to do both simultaneously.

To help you up your streetwear game, we will go through the best streetwear brands currently on the market and why they are worth having in your wardrobe (if you can get your hands on them!)

1) STUSSY

FOUNDED: 1980
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Urban Outfitters, Selfridges UK & Stussy Stores

Stussy Streetwear 2019

When we think back to the creation of streetwear, many people think of Stussy. Calfiornian surfer and creator of Stussy, Shawn Stussy is often said to have been on the starting line of the street fashion scene when he began signing his name onto his handcrafted surfboards which became hugely popular in the California surfing community. From this, Shawn started to create t-shirts and hoodies with the signature “stussy” logo printed on the front and the rest is history!

2) SUPREME

FOUNDED: 1994
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Supreme Stores In Soho, Intruders Resale Store (If you like queuing!)

Supreme Streetwear 2019

Supreme is another brand which is linked to the origin of what we know as streetwear today. Streetwear often uses the marketing technique of “drops” where a brand releases a limited edition product or a small quantity of a product with very little warning. By doing a “drop”, brands create a sense of urgency within the buyers who believe that if they want the item, they must purchase immediately or it will sell out. Supreme are the kings of Streetwear drops and every Thursday a new “drop” of Supreme items are released and every week these “drops” sell out within seconds.

These product releases generate mile-long queues of people outside the eleven store locations across the world with “hype beasts” queuing for hours on end with the aim of getting their hands on some of the newly released items. Those unable to purchase at the “drops” are then forced to turn to retailers, often paying extortionate markups on originally reasonably priced products.

3) BAPE (A Bathing Ape)

FOUNDED: 1993
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Bape Stores & Selfridges

BAPE Streetwear 2019

Founded in the heart of Tokyo, one of the major and limit testing fashion capitals of the world, Bape is a Japanese clothing brand which produces streetwear ranges for Men, Women and children.Since its establishment in 1993, the brand has been iconic in the streetwear world. Like many streetwear brands BAPE focuses on the combination of fashion and culture, with their Kyto store also featuring a BAPE gallery which is often used for events and art shows in connection with the brand.

Like many Japanese streetwear lines, BAPE’s origins can be traced to the ura-Harajuku scene, popular in the early ‘90s Japan. The creator Nigo’s love for the 1968 film Planet of the Apes, can be seen in the name “The Bathing Ape” as well as a reference to the Japanese idiom of “A bathing ape in lukewarm water”, this phrase is used to describe an over indulgent individual such as someone who would stay in the bath until the water was no longer hot. Many believe this is a reference to the overindulgent HypeBeast/Hypebae culture who populate the streetwear scene.

To this day BAPE continues to be a long running popular brand of contemporary streetwear, although some may say that their more current releases are a lot more predictable and tame than in the earlier years with pieces such as their camo range and their shark hoodies returning every season. BAPE will always have legacy as one of the original streetwear founders and its connections to the hip-hop fashion scene and street culture has meant the brand continues to grow in popularity even 26 years after the brands creation. And with their more recent collaborations with brands such as Adidas, BAPE’s audience continues to grow and expand.

4) Chinadoll fashion

FOUNDED: 2015

5) Billionaire Boys Club

FOUNDED: 2005
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Billionaire Boys Club Carnaby Street, Selfridges Bari & Harrods

Billionaire Boys Club Streetwear 2019

Billionaire Boys Club is without a doubt one of the most iconic labels to hit the streetwear scene this decade and has provided a contrast to the streetwear scene which has always focused on vibrancy and representation.

Founder of the brand Pharrell Williams gained inspiration for the brand after watching “The Billionaire Boys Club” film which has some underlying connections to the hypebeast scene and their overwhelming desire for lavish lifestyles. Farrell's position as one of the world's leading artist and producers, meant that the brand already had a large following and fan base upon its initial creation.

Pharrell wanted to use Billionaire Boys Club to convey exclusive luxury in a positive light- aiming to show that wealth is achievable not through numbers, but through the heart and mind.

6) HUF

FOUNDED: 2002
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: HUF Stores, Slam City Skates & Size

HUF Streetwear 2019

The creation of streetwear is often linked to the 1990’s skateboarding scene. The extremely popular streetwear brand HUF was created by talented skateboarding legend Keith Hufnagel in the streets of San Francisco and optimises the connection between streetwear and skateboarding culture.

The popularity of the brand HUF within the streetwear scene can be linked to both Hufnagel’s proficiency at skateboarding and his respect and connections from within the skateboarding community. Since HUF’s establishment in 2002, they have moved their roots to LA which proved to be successful as it led to collaborations with major names such as Snoop Dogg. With what feels like 90% of the population owning a pair of HUF socks at some point in their life, HUF’s most recent spring collection draws back into their roots taking inspiration from the 90’s New York skateboarding scene.

7) PALACE

FOUNDED: 2010
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Palace Stores

Palace Streetwear Brand 2019

The fairly recently established UK skate brand “Palace” has become a major name in the hype beast scene. Palace has put Streetwear on the map for the UK as one of the quickest growing British streetwear brands which is now competing with massive names such as Supreme, who are well known for their high level of hype.

Much like the Supreme drops, the palace collections instantly sell out, giving Supreme a run for their money with queues of fans waiting outside the Palace stores on the morning of the drops.

Like Supreme, Palace is highly influenced by skating culture but takes this from a new angle by adding unique British flare to their designs. Combining sporty a sporty aesthetic of tracksuits, caps and hoodies with traditional pieces such as loafers and smoking jackets is what makes Palace stand out amongst other major streetwear brands.

8) KITH

FOUNDED: 2011
WHERE TO COP IN LONDON: Selfridges Bari

KITH Streetwear 2019

Founded by footwear industry expert Ronnie Fieg in 2011, Kith has quickly become one of the fastest rising names in streetwear. Fieg has designed some of the most sought after trainer collaborations in the recent years, working with brands such as Pusa, Asics and Adidas. All of which were sold on the Kith online store.

Kith aims to shift the current state of the fashion industry whilst also aiming to operate under the philosophy of giving the consumer more than what they are paying for.

What began as a hub for selling men’s sneakers, Kith expanded in 2015 and also now sells their own range of both Men’s streetwear and women’s streetwear. As one of the few Streetwear brands to launch a women’s streetwear range,

Fieg noticed the gap in the market when he realised that the smallest sizes of his Menswear launches were often the first to sell out. Fieg wanted to move his women's wear range away from the “borrowed from the boys look” and instead decided to create an independent line for women, only re-designing a few of the best-selling male pieces.

With Kith still continuing to establish itself within the streetwear scene, we expect to see more streetwear brands following suit and becoming more inclusive of women’s streetwear in future collections.

With streetwear just getting bigger and bigger within the fashion industry, investing in some original streetwear pieces is sure to up your fashion game. As spring and summer quickly approach, make sure you are looking your coolest by checking out some of these cool clothing brands which are set to be massive in 2020 and are sure to continue growing in the coming years.

What is StreetWear?

StreetWear really is the “grey area” of urban clothing; it is so difficult to explain and define. As its name suggests, the streetwear fashion trend is largely influenced by what is happening “on the streets” and is, therefore, evolving constantly and at a rapid pace.

In recent years the term has grown in popularity at an extreme rate, meaning the term “StreetWear” has come to encompass and adopt many new meanings and styles making it very hard to pin down.

Streetwear Brand UK - Bari You Dont Want this Life

The most common definition of StreetWear is “typically a casual style of clothing, worn by urban youths involved in subcultures”.

Typically StreetWear items are comfortable and simple pieces such as jeans, t-shirts and caps. These items often encompass many trends such as 1980s nostalgia, bold colours, hip-hop and skateboarding vibes.

What started as a simple term for “urban youth clothing” has come to embody so much more, and with the growth of “high-fashion” StreetWear, the term is only becoming more and more undefinable.

StreetWear vs Fashion - how are they different and the same?

You may be surprised to hear that StreetWear is not a new phenomenon. It has in fact been around for close to 40 years.

Despite this, only in recent years have high-end fashion designers decided to embrace the StreetWear scene and take the movement seriously meaning more and more people are recognising the StreetWear movement due to its growing popularity in mainstream culture.

The transition from Instagram aesthetic to high fashion, is clear if we take a look at the amount of athleisure; which has made it onto recent runways, and the Kardashians trading in their jeans for tracksuit bottoms.

The line between high-fashion and StreetWear is becoming increasingly blurred as the seasons go on with the likes of Gucci and Louis Vuitton embracing some aspects of fashion which are linked to the StreetWear scene such as graphic tees, hoodies and chunky trainers.

Gucci Streetwear

Despite this, some high-end fashion designers are fighting the movement and would be disgusted by the label of “StreetWear”, yet there is no denying that some of their designs embody aspects of the culture. To stay relevant, interesting and current it is essential after all!

How did StreetWear Clothing Start?

Let's take this back to the origins, how did StreetWear start and where did this idea come from?

It is generally accepted that the style has evolved out of the LA Surf style and culture where StreetWear simply was used to describe comfortable clothing. Often worn by skateboarders and surfers with brands such as Ocean Pacific and Offshore providing for this select culture of individuals.

There is not one brand which can be individually linked to “the start of StreetWear” but surfboard designer, Shawn Stussy is often thought to be at the starting line as one of the main “creators of StreetWear”.

Starting as a surfboard designer he transitioned from selling his Stussy designed surfboards to t-shirts with matching Stussy design. This Stussy logo is now widely and universally recognised for its connection to the StreetWear scene.

Over the years, American sports franchises also had a large impact on the scene with LA Raiders and Chicago Bulls caps and jerseys becoming a wardrobe staple for many within the scene.

StreetWear Drops and Exclusivity

Clothing manufacturers releasing limited edition items and using social media and product rarity as their main marketing tools created the exclusivity around the StreetWear scene that we see today.

Building exclusivity around a brand is a clever marketing tactic put in place by many StreetWear brands including Supreme, who have had major success with their marketing model, using exclusivity and drops to create desirability around their products which are notoriously hard to get your hands on.

It’s a classic case of “wanting what you can't have” which makes their specialty clothing so appealing to many.

What is a StreetWear clothing drop?

A “drop” is a sales tactic put in place by a number of Streetwear brands to supercharge the supply and demand model.

A “drop” consists of releasing a limited edition product or releasing small of a product with very little warning.

By doing a “drop” you are creating a sense of urgency within the buyers who believe that if they want the item, they must purchase immediately or it will sell out.

Each Thursday marks the “drop” of new Supreme items and every Thursday these “drops” sell out in seconds, with mile-long queues of people outside of the eleven store locations across the world and many people struggling to pick up items from the marketplace online.

Those who were unable to purchase at the “drops” are then forced to turn to resellers, often paying extortionate markups on these products.

Supreme Streetwear Brand - Line for a Clothing Drop

It took just 16 seconds for Rimowa’s suitcase collaboration with Supreme to sell out, despite its high price of $1600, this collaboration was announced simply by both labels posting an image of the cases on social media just three days ahead of the “drop.”

Rimowa’s suitcase collaboration with Supreme

Benefits of StreetWear Clothing “Drops”:

  • The limited amount of products being sold means the clothes appear to be rarer than they are in reality- adding to the brand desirability.
  • Re-selling of items overseas results in a wider distribution of merchandise which is seen (and hopefully desired) by a bigger audience.
  • With the limited products and most re-selling being done to overseas buyers, the likelihood of being seen in the same item as someone else is practically zero.
  • Reselling appeals to a different audience, a lover of luxury items may not have been interested in a £40 t-shirt but might be more attracted to an item at its £160 re-sell price, assuming that the quality is equivalent to the pricing.

Despite this cycle of dropping and reselling, Supreme and many other StreetWear brands continue to produce and sell their products in this way. Producing only a small amount of products contributes to the exclusivity and the reselling attributes luxury pricing to the brand.

Who are StreetWear fashion influencers?

So now you know a bit about StreetWear, how can you become involved in the “culture” of StreetWear?

The best way to do this is by exposing yourself to the current trends which can be done easily on Instagram.

StreetWear Fashion Shows You Need to See

With more and more StreetWear hitting the runway, there are plenty of opportunities to see StreetWear styled and worn by models.

Here are our top two StreetWear Fashion shows which we loved.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga fashion shows are not to be missed, their perfect combination of high fashion and StreetWear makes for interesting and varied shows. Last year the Balenciaga fall/winter 18 fashion show broke the internet with this MASSIVE layered jacket which was literally the biggest thing in StreetWear at the time. Taking the oversized trend to a whole new level, this jacket really pushed the boundaries of StreetWear fashion and this is why we loved this show.

Balenciaga Streetwear Fashion Show

YEEZY

The Yeezy fashion shows always break the internet, with the simple yet boundary-pushing designs they are always great to watch. This show had a major impact of urban StreetWear in the months that followed and the style even made its way into the high street fashion so they are certainly one to watch.

What are the top StreetWear Fashion Trends?

As we mentioned previously, the design and trends of StreetWear are constantly changing but here are some trends which we are really loving at the moment.

  • Oversized Everything- We believe that everything looks better oversized, whether that's oversized t-shirts, hoodies or tracksuit bottoms. Oversized items have long been associated with the StreetWear scene, linking back to its “skater-boy” origins where everything is oversized and baggy. Throwing on an oversized hoody with jeans is such a simple look that looks effortlessly cool on both men and women.
  •

    Redline Streetwear Hoodie

  • Neon- We can't get enough of the Neon and it seems as though everyone else in the StreetWear scene is feeling the same. Neon has been a massive trend for the last few months and with no signs of going out of fashion any time soon, it's a trend we are fully embracing. Pairing a statement Neon hoodie piece with a simple monochrome look is our favourite way to style the trend. If you aren’t feeling bold enough to go all out with the neon, why not start with a neon beanie and go from there.
  •

    Neon Safety Yellow Streetwear Beanie

What are some of the top fashion StreetWear brands?

Here are some StreetWear brands we love to keep up with and follow on Instagram, check them out to keep up with the latest street style trends and releases for men and women’s urban clothing.

    • Off white
    • Supreme
    • Balenciaga
    • Stussy
    • Palace skateboards
    • Champion
    • Frenchie
    • Stone Island
    • Kitch

This just scrapes the surface on the massive culture that is the urban StreetWear scene. Check out the full range of < a href="/">StreetWear clothing products available on our website, we are constantly adding new lines and ranges for both men and women!

https://adopteunbaobab.com/blogs/news/5-trends-to-leave-behind-in-2018 2019-01-07T09:23:00+00:00 2019-07-18T00:18:32+01:00 5 FASHION TRENDS 2018 TO LEAVE BEHIND IN THE NEW YEAR Adam Tran With the New Year well and truly in full swing, it is the perfect time to set goals and make changes for the year ahead. Sadly this also means leaving behind some of the fashion trends we picked up in 2018. 2018 was a great year for fashion, with some experimental, crazy and original trends emerging but the constantly evolving nature of the industry means these trends are ever-changing and some must be left behind when a new year arrives. These are the massive trends of 2018 which we predict will not make it to 2019...

    1) Clear Plastic Fashion

With a particularly “Kardashian-Obsessed” 2018, when Kim stepped out in these knee-high clear plastic boots, the fashion world went crazy. With real love/hate feedback on these boots, Chanel and other designers jumped on the controversial plastic fashion train, featuring some pieces in their spring/summer collection! With the designer seal of approval, plastic fashion production went into overdrive, with variations of the trend appearing even in high street stores. But the trend was short-lived, with the damaging effects of plastic production on our environment, along with the sweaty, unpractical nature of plastic shoes, I think it is safe to say these will be left behind in 2018!

    Kardashian-Clear-plastic-boots

    2) Tiny Sunglasses

90’s fashion made a major comeback in 2018 and we don’t think this trend could be any more 90’s if it tried! Tiny sunglasses is a trend which went CRAZY this summer, you couldn’t walk down the street without seeing 20 pairs of these tiny sunglasses! For many years, sunglasses were worn large and the bigger the better! So when supermodels such as Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner started rocking this 90’s trend, we didn't know what to think! But since then it seems as though everyone owns a pair of tiny sunglasses

    Tiny-Sunglasses-2018-Fashion

With their practicality being questioned- “do they actually keep the sun out of your eyes?” we are wondering if this is a trend which will disappear into 2018 or if they will re-emerge when the 2019 sun makes an appearance!

    3) Micro-Handbags

    Micro-Handbags-2018-Fashion

Cute? Yes. Practical? I don’t think so...

These tiny handbags have taken the fashion world by storm this year and have been key items in many celebrity wardrobes, with many designers such as Louis Vuitton and Guess bringing out micro versions of their best selling bags. They are cute but we can help but question what anyone is possibly fitting inside them! With that being said, we predict they will not be making it into 2019...

    4) Dad trainers

    Dad-Trainers-Streetwear

Stylish yet comfy footwear is always a massive yes in our books. But when the Dad trainer trend, led by designers such as Balenciaga, arrived we weren’t ready for it! With highstreet stores offering cheaper alternatives, these shoes will be everywhere in 2019! Notoriously hard to style, they became massive on the streetwear scene in 2018 becoming a staple in many wardrobes. After months of trying to make this chunky footwear look fashionable, we predict that it will be left in 2018….

    5) Animal Print?

This is a trend we can’t seem to let go of! Leopard print and snake prints have taken over our wardrobes in autumn 2018, with pretty much every store, (designer or not) embracing the trend!

    Animal-Print-Fashion-2018

Is 2019 time to move on from these prints? Or will they continue to be just as popular as we continue into 2019? We will see…

After Private Ryan, played by Matt Damon, is found and saved at the cost of six other soldiers’ lives, mortally wounded Captain Miller, played by Tom Hanks, whispers to Ryan, “Earn it.” Mill, too, needs to earn the chance he has been given that hundreds of the wrongfully convicted never receive. A new Columbia University Justice Lab report shows Pennsylvania leads the nation with 296,000 residents on parole or probation. Some of those people went to prison when they were as young as Mill, who was convicted on drug and gun charges in 2008 as a 19-year-old. While they remain incarcerated or under supervision, Mill is free, at least until the new trial that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has said should be held. It’s not quite time to lose the winter coats just yet, and we have some other great recommendations to help you battle the bitter cold:

https://adopteunbaobab.com/blogs/news/top-4-essentials-for-your-ski-trip-holiday 2018-01-28T23:05:00+00:00 2019-07-18T00:05:17+01:00 Chinadoll fashion - Ski Trip Essentials List - Lifestyle Clothing Brand Adam Tran

The ski season is fully upon us and my timelines are full of amazing and jealousy-inducing content from friends trapezing around mountains across Europe. For many people skiing is an annual excursion but for others it’s entirely new territory and preparing for a ski trip can be fairly daunting, which is why we have put together a quick list of our top 4 essentials to take skiing with you, as a beginner or season skier, these are a great place to start!

    1) Ski Pursuit App

A simple and effective way to start your ski prep is to download some great apps to use during your trip, from photography and video apps to apps that measure your ski speed and map your routes. One of our favourites is Ski Pursuit - this app tracks and records all your runs and allows you to share the stats with your friends over social media. The app also gives you a recap of all your speed stats - maximum speed, average speed, duration, distance, ascent, descent so you can get competing with your friends to find the true ski god!

    https://adopteunbaobab.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rossignol.android&hl=en_GB

    2) Chinadoll fashion beanie

We all know skiing isn’t just about powder runs and gaining the perfect technique; it’s also about looking the part and with a huge array of brands to choose from it can be a struggle to choose that perfect ski attire. One item that is especially necessary on the slopes is a beanie hat. Lifestyle brand Chinadoll fashion, based between Bari and Toronto, have released a chic black beanie with their crisp white logo design. The material is extremely warm and durable so whether hitting the piste or dancing at apres this is a key component that will suit any kit, colour scheme or style! Chinadoll fashion has a great array of hats, hoodies and accessories that would be part of any essential items for a ski trip - check them out here! https://adopteunbaobab.com/

    3) Drycase Smartphone Case

When you’re up on that mountain wearing your stylish new ski gear (beanie included) and surrounded by breathtaking views it’s absolutely necessary to get those photos and instagram stories to make all your friends at home wish they were there with you. But to painstakingly get out your iphone and focus on not dropping it into the snow and losing it forever is quite the feat, honestly I have seen some ski lift related incidents and they didn’t end well! But all that stress can be avoided with a very simple phone gadget made for the slopes - a Drycase smartphone case! Using vacuum seal technology no snow will be able to get to the phone, keeping it safe and dry in the powder. The case still allows all functionality for you to capture content, listen to music, text and make calls. One of the best things about this case is that it also comes with an arm band and lanyard so you don’t have to worry about losing and can get those action shots mid-run (if you can manage not to fall over!)

    https://adopteunbaobab.com/product/DC-13.html

P.s - if you have a little more confidence in yourself and are looking for something smaller a pop-socket is a great option to help keep hold of your phone on the slopes. I tried and tested the Chinadoll fashion one on my recent ski trip and it worked a treat! https://adopteunbaobab.com/products/pop-sockets-selfie-phone-holder

    4) Hip flask

Apres is a huge part of skiing - once the ski day is done it’s time to head back down the mountain, get on a table and drink (probably too much) mulled wine and beer. Having said that we think a little tipple at the top of the mountain can only improve your skiing technique (it's science, of course), and the obvious accessory needed for that is a hip flask! A sip of rum or sloe gin will get you brave enough to attempt those black runs in no time. We love the huge variety of designs from The Pocket Hip Flask Co - the stainless steel flasks are perfect to fit the environment and any bumps you may take whilst skiing/snowboarding. They are the perfect shape to fit into your bag or pocket and they also offer engraving to add that extra personal touch! www.pockethipflask.co.uk

We’re looking forward to taking these top essentials away with us this ski season, so follow the links to get started on your own ski essentials kit and make sure to tag us in your ski pics if you purchase them! Happy skiing!
